The Fijian Drua fell to the ACT Brumbies 33-21 in Canberra, marking their second loss to the Australian side this Super Rugby Pacific season.
The Brumbies dominated early, surging to a 28-7 lead with Wallabies stars Len Ikitau and Tom Wright putting on an attacking masterclass. Their precise execution and fluid interplay had the Drua struggling to contain their backline threats.
At the heart of the Brumbies’ control was fly-half Noah Lolesio, who orchestrated the attack with authority. His composure and playmaking ability will give Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt confidence in Australia’s depth at the No. 10 position, alongside Ben Donaldson and Tom Lynagh.
Despite the daunting halftime deficit, the Drua showed resilience, storming back with two quick tries early in the second half to reignite the contest. The first of those, finished by Motikiai Murray, was particularly electrifying. Starting deep in their own half, the Drua showcased their signature flair, using quick hands and an audacious offload to carve through the Brumbies’ defense.
However, despite their attacking resurgence, the Drua were unable to close the gap further, as the Brumbies tightened their defense and controlled possession in the closing stages.
The loss sees the Drua fall short once again against one of Super Rugby’s premier sides, but their second-half fightback proved they remain a dangerous outfit capable of thrilling rugby.
