On the rare occasions an animal reaches the field of play, they often become the stars of the show. This was no different during the Hunter Premier 2 division game between Nelson Bay Groupers and Hamilton Hawks in Australia.
Early in the second half, already up by 13 points, Hamilton had a scrum in a great attacking position. At this point, the Hawks backline were probably visualising how best to get over the whitewash, or how the opposing defence may set up.
What they weren’t discussing was how to deal with a pet charging across their attacking line.
However ,sure enough, just as the ball was coming out the back of the scrum, a dog came sprinting onto the pitch, much to the joy of the commentators (and probably the players).

It must be said that the little guy was doing a great job defensively by tracking the play across the field before he quite clearly strayed offside!
Not just happy with his physical effort on the pitch, the pooch then seemed to give the Hamilton players a stirring team talk.
It seemed at one point that the games’ new four legged friend wasn’t going to leave but some great thinking by the Hamilton centre saw him lead the dog off the pitch using the ball as a decoy.
