Freddie Burns has taken to social media to share footage of a terrible injury that will see him out of action for the foreseeable future.
The footage shows Burns’ foot bending in a completely unnatural way which resulted in a anterior tibial plateau fracture.
Despite the horrific outcome, the former Leicester Tiger counted himself lucky that it was not a worse injury and that he should still be able to play rugby again.
It’s such a shame for a player who is so popular within the entire rugby community.

Burns’ injury only compounds the issues faced by the Highlanders. Aside from their poor start to the season, they are now missing a staggering 12 players due to injury – although they are keen not to use this as an excuse.
The current (extensive) list of casualties are below:
- Along with Marty Banks (groin),
- Jona Nareki (foot),
- Marino Mikaele Tu’u (ribs),
- Scott Gregory (knee),
- Jeff Thwaites (back),

Despite the odds being against them, the Highlanders will be looking to bounce back after their 28-7 loss against the Chiefs when they face Western Force on Sunday 19th March.
