One of South African Rugby’s most historic and competitive derbies took place over the weekend as Grey College from Bloemfontein took on Paarl Boys High.
Grey College entered the fixture as slight favourites, but it would be Paarl who would get off to a stronger start as they went into 5 – 0 lead on 13 minutes.
The score would come off the back of a powerful maul, the score remained 5 – 0 when the conversion was missed.
That try would be the only score until into the second half when Grey struck with two quick fire tries to establish a strong 14 – 5 lead.
Grey would they strike again to put the fixture out of sight at 21 – 5 on the 52nd minute.
With so much quality on display on both sides there was plenty of highlight moments to go around. None more so than this huge hit from Grey winger Alfonso Isaacs on the Paarl Fullback.
Boys High continued to fight to the end and were rewarded with a consolation try when time expired to put the seal on a tough physical fixture.
