Ireland left wing James Lowe is renowned as one of the most physically dominant wingers in the international game.
Powerful in the carry and possessing a cannon of a left boot, Lowe is firmly entrenched as Ireland’s first choice on the left wing.
Facing the most physical team in the world on Saturday evening in Paris, Lowe’s battle with the big South African ball carriers made for an interesting subplot.
In a team of giants, none are bigger or more physical than stalwart secondrow Eben Etzebeth.
The 31-year-old is quite possibly the best player South African Rugby has ever produced and will, in all likelihood, end his career as the most capped Springbok of all time when it is all said and done.
Taking over the role of enforcer from fellow World Cup winner Bakkies Botha, Etzebeth has been at the heart of everything positive South African Rugby has accomplished over the past decade.
Standing at 6’8″ and 125kg, many would expect Etzebeth to dominate just about every physical encounter he enters into.
Yet, that was until Etzebeth met Lowe five meters out from the Irish line.
