Veteran referee JP Doyle asserted his dominance on his return to officiating during Saturday’s Major League Rugby match between Toronto Arrows and Seattle Seawolves.

The 41-year-old took charge of his first game since being made redundant by the RFU eight months ago and his experience shined through across the Atlantic.
Doyle lay down his authority throughout the game by telling off players for back chat and appealing his decisions as well as dealing excellently with the front rows at scrum time.
The Irishman has refereed at the very top level of international rugby and his experience will likely elevate the standards of MLR games moving forward.
