La Rochelle stole a late victory in a key Top 14 clash last Saturday.
La Rochelle claimed victory against Bordeaux 16-15, courtesy of a last minute penalty from Ihaia West to seal the win for La Rochelle.
Bordeaux currently sit in 2nd in the table with La Rochelle right behind them, only 5 points adrift. Bordeaux had led the league for a large part of the season before Montpellier rallied with a surge to bring them top of the table.
The Top 14 is well into the business end of the season with only 3 rounds of regular fixtures left before the knockout fixtures. Following this round of fixtures, 9 teams have a chance to finish inside. top 6. This fixture was a big one.
Bordeaux led 12-10 at halftime with four penalties from Maxime Lucu, but Raymond Rhule and Jonathan Danty scored tries for La Rochelle. On the touchline during that tight second period, O’Gara and Bordeaux coach Christophe Urios had a heated exchange of words. West put La Rochelle ahead 10 minutes into the second half, and there was no more scoring until Lucu put Bordeaux back in front five minutes from time with another kick. However it was West who had the final say to seal the win for La Rochelle.
Champions Toulouse currently sit outside the top 4 with Castre holding firm with an extra point on the table to stay in fourth place.
