Connacht hosted Munster in New Years Day United Rugby Championship action. Although the scoring was kept at a minimum, flyhalf Ben Healy helped Munster score their first try with his massive effort in charging down Mack Hanson after his own booming clearance kick.
URC leading try-scorer Mack Hansen was back for Connacht. However, the winger was slow in collecting the kick, thus giving the streaking Healy just enough time for the block.
Andrew Conway then chased down the loose ball for the Munster score.
Gethin Jenkins charge down, kick ahead, try!
Unfortunately for the visitors, the try was unconverted and that would eventually prove to be the difference.
Other first half drama included yellow cards for Connacht’s Oisin Dowling after repeated infringements and Shane Delahunt and Healy for an off-the-ball altercation.
Bundee Aki got across in the 58th minute and Conor Fitzgerald’s conversion was enough for the two-point win.
