RG Snyman’s first clash in the blue of Leinster against his former team, Munster, ended just about as positively as the Springbok could’ve hoped for.
Scoring a try in his team’s 26 – 12 victory, the giant lock appeared to be enjoying the role of pantomime villain in front of the 83,000+ fans at Croke Park.
Following a tumultuous offseason of storylines following a move that in Irish Rugby terms, was the equivalent of Luis Figo’s move from Barcelone to Real Madrid, it would appear as though the water has now firmly passed under the bridge.
On the front that matters most, it would appear as though the Munster players completely understood the predicament their former teammate was in when the province were put in a difficult position to choose between him and fellow Bok Jean Kleyn.
Opting to retain the normally durable Kleyn in favour of a player who, in truth, rarely featured for them was the logical choice for Munster, albeit Snyman’s ceiling as a player would appear to be higher.
Alas, rather than trodding over old ground, the post-match interaction between Snyman and his former teammates proved unequivocally that he remains a popular figure with the team.
One moment in particular that caught my eye was the rather funny interaction between Snyman and Munster fullback Mike Haley, in which the former Sale Sharks man flashed the double bird to his former teammate!
Not the result any Munster fan wanted, but at least we got this moment from Mike Haley at the end 😂#LEIvMun #BKTURC pic.twitter.com/Hdw4gdHTff
