Watch this beautiful try scored by the Seattle Seawolves in their second game of the season against the Utah Warriors.
Seattle won 20-17 in what was the first Thursday night game this season for the league. The Seattle Seawolves were the inaugural champions of Major League Rugby back in 2018. They backed it up in 2019 to win two in a row.
Last season Utah made it to the Championship semi finals (Western Conference final) and lost out 17-13 to the eventual champions, the LA Giltinis. The Giltinis have a star studded squad for 2022 with Matt Giteau resigning along with other big names such as DTH van der Merwe, Dave Dennis, and Billy Meakes. They also have some big USA international names like Luke Carty, Ryan James, Hanco Germishuys (formerly of New York) and 2021 rookie Christian Rodriguez.
In last night’s fixture, Seattle were leading 20-10 until the 77th minute. Chad Gough scored for the Utah Warriors, to secure the losing bonus point for Utah. For this suburb score, USA 7s star Martin Iosefo makes a brilliant break up the right hand touch line on a kick return. Iosefo, when tackled, gets an offload away to support, and they get another deft touch away too, bringing them roughly 10 metres away from the Utah line. They ran a pass left towards the middle of the field, and two beautiful passes put flanker Nakai Penny in the opposite corner for Seattle. A sublime skip pass from centre, Tavite Lopeti set up the score for Penny in the corner.
