Before the game between Bristol Bears and Newcastle Falcons last night, few would have given the team from the North East a chance. However, the Falcons silenced their critics and produced an early contender for upset of the season.
Driven by a strong Argentinean core – Newcastle were superb from minute one. They took the game to Bristol and fully deserved their 30-15 victory.
You could even argue that this was a result rugby needed – after the devastating news surrounding Worcester, fears of the future of smaller clubs have grown, and for a club like Newcastle, this win meant far more than just getting points on the board.
Although the entire Newcastle squad put in performances they could be proud of, one of their frighteningly quick wingers was the clear player of the match – and no, its not THAT flying winger.
Matteo Carrera had already been awarded man of the match, but with the clock in the red he scored a try that left the crowd and commentators stunned.
The Argentinean back left the whole Bristol defence in his wake and the final ‘in out’ step is simply sublime!
That's how you seal a victory and add the bonus point for @FalconsRugby! š¦
