Despite producing this moment of magic on the last day of 2022, Owen Farrell has made a strong case for winning ‘Pass of the year’.
Saracens dominated the game against rivals Exeter, and played with their new-look, exciting style of rugby that they have adopted this season.
This style was personified by their talisman, Owen Farrell. So often unfairly typecast as a one dimensional, tactical, kicking fly half, the no.10 reminded us all that he has far more strings to his bow.
As the ball comes to Farrell, around 5 meters from the Exeter line, without looking, he flashes a behind the back pass straight into the arms of his winger Alex Lewington to score.
It was a piece of skill that left both sets of players shocked and is easily a contender for assist of the season.
