England World Cup winner Steve Thompson opened up on his recent diagnosis of early onset dementia during a TV interview last month.
Thomson was a member of England’s 2003 World Cup-winning side and back in December it was announced he was taking formal legal action against the game’s governing bodies alongside eight other former professionals.
In this interview from December Thompson said he has no recollection of playing for England at the 2003 World Cup and detailed his emotions following the diagnosis.
The 42-year-old said he would rather have a healthy mind now than have ever played professional rugby.
Thomspon played almost 200 times for Northampton Saints throughout his career and earned 73 caps for England as well as three Test match appearances for the British & Irish Lions in 2005.
