France lock Sebastien Vahaamahina received a straight red card for a swinging elbow to the face of Wales flanker Aaron Wainwright in the World Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

The Clermont forward struck Wainwright in the middle of a rolling maul in the 49th minute of the game, leaving them with 14 men and a nine-point advantage.
Although Vahaamahina contributed to France’s early lead with a try after five minutes, his red card ultimately cost them a semi-final sport in the World Cup.
