The Welsh Premier Divison has been struck with controversy this week after one of its leading teams has failed to put together a team for their upcoming match due to “Concurrent injuries and unavailability of a number of specialist front row players”.
Just last year, Pontypool RFC caused shockwaves in Welsh rugby when they called for rival team Beddau RFC’s expulsion from the National Championship after failing to put together a side for the league match between the two sides. Not stopping just at attacking the opposition team, they proceeded at the time to call upon the Welsh Rugby Union’s Community Game Board to resign.
This week, in an ironic twist of fate, Pontypool RFC have now found themselves committing the same ‘offence’.
Pontypool RFC are frustrated to announce that the scheduled Indigo Premiership match against RGC this coming Saturday afternoon has had to be postponed.

The statement made by the club, read: “Pontypool RFC are frustrated to announce that the scheduled Indigo Premiership match against RGC this coming Saturday afternoon has had to be postponed.
“Concurrent injuries and unavailability of a number of specialist front row players mean that they are unavailable for selection for the game. Therefore, after consultation with the WRU, the game has had to be postponed on health and safety grounds.
“The club would like to acknowledge the disruption this will cause to travel plans for those fans due to travel north with the team this weekend.
“Clearly, having to postpone a scheduled game is not something the club would ever wish to do in anything other than exceptional & unavoidable circumstances. We await the outcome of discussions between the WRU & RGC as to any sanctions or rearrangement of the fixture forthcoming.”
This news has been met with much humour across Twitter, with some proposing that their, would have been opponents, RGC, ought to call for Pontypool’s exclusion from the league, with one person even joking that they have a ready made letter for such an occasion.
@PontypoolRFC @RGCNews 🤣🤣🤣 have a word with the ‘ famous’ pontypool. Micky mouse club paying stupid money can’t get a side. pic.twitter.com/uaTTLDFWhM

Will RGC push for Pooler to be expelled from the league?…. Just as when they stuck the boot into Beddau RFC in 2022? 👀 pic.twitter.com/G2V82srlf3

The match between the two sides has been postponed for the time being, with Pontypool RFC now being without a fixture until the 23rd of December, which hopefully for them will mean plenty of rest and recuperation time for their front row specialists.
