South African UFC star Dricus du Plessis reaffirmed himself as the baddest man in the middleweight division as he defeated former champion Israel Adesanya via submission at UFC 305 in Perth on the weekend.
Taking the win over a third consecutive former champion, du Plessis has put himself in pole position as a headline act for a future UFC event in South Africa.
Joining du Plessis on walkout to the octagon were two icons of South African sport in Springbok stars Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth.
Whilst rugby fans the world over will be more than familiar with the duo, their walkout with du Plessis exposed them to another segment of the sporting world.
Encapsulating the shock at the impressive physical stature of the duo, one US sports commentator Luke Thomas lost his mind when describing Etzebeth.
“The Springbok dude in the corner of du Plessis is a monster!
“Who is that guy? He is f****** huge!” He said.
Of course rugby fans are accustomed to the sheer size of players such as Etzebeth, it is interesting to see the shock of a non-rugby fans to the incredible athletes within the sport.
